My brothers and sisters, let me tell you something — God is not the author of confusion, but of divine order! When the Lord called His apostles, He called men who had walked with Him, talked with Him, ate with Him, and saw Him risen from the dead! Peter said in (Acts 1:21–22), “Of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us… must one be ordained to be a witness with us of His resurrection!” In other words, the apostles were eyewitnesses of the Living Christ! They didn’t hear about Jesus through rumors; they saw Him with their own eyes!
But hold up now — don’t get it twisted! Not everyone who speaks by the Spirit was an apostle! The Bible says there were prophets too; men and women like Agabus and Philip’s daughters who did not walk with Christ in the flesh, but spoke under the anointing of the Holy Ghost!
Prophets don’t speak from what they saw naturally; they speak from what the Spirit reveals supernaturally! For (2 Peter 1:21) says, “Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost!” The apostles saw Jesus; but the prophets heard Him! The apostles laid the foundation, but the prophets confirmed it! (Ephesians 2:20) tells us that the Church is “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone.” That means God used both; apostles with their witness, and prophets with their word to build His Church! Hallelujah!
Now somebody might say, “Preacher, do we have prophets today?” Yes, we do, but not in the same way as Isaiah or Paul! The office of prophet who revealed new Scripture is complete, but the gift of prophecy; oh, that still flows! The same Spirit that fell in (Acts 2) is still speaking to hearts, still confirming the Word, still calling men and women to repentance and encouragement! (Acts 2:17) declares, “In the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy!” Glory to God!
So today, if somebody stands and says, “The Lord said,” you better measure that word against the Word! If it don’t line up with Scripture, if it don’t exalt Jesus, if it don’t edify the Church, then it ain’t from the Holy Ghost! For (1 John 4:1) says, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.” ...God’s real prophets don’t point to themselves; they point to Christ!
So I came to tell somebody today; you don’t have to see Him in the flesh to be used by Him in the Spirit! You don’t have to be an eyewitness to be a voice-witness! All you need is a heart open to the Holy Ghost, a life surrendered to His Word, and a willingness to speak what “thus saith the Lord!” For the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead still moves today; still speaks, still calls, still confirms His truth through the vessels who will listen and obey! Glory to God!!!
