A Holy Hunger; The Power Of Godly Desire!

Hey, y'all; today, we're going to talk about a fire that burns deep within the soul of the believer — not a fleshly craving, not a worldly pursuit, but a holy hunger for God! A desire that says, “Lord, I want You more than anything else!” The Bible says in (Psalm 37:4), “Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Now watch this; that doesn’t mean God gives you whatever you want. It means when you delight in Him, He shapes your desires! He transforms what your heart longs for! When you love Him, you begin to want what He wants!

(Psalm 145:19) says, “He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him.” Church, when your desire is wrapped in reverence, when your longing is soaked in holiness, God doesn’t just hear it; He honors it! You see, godly desire is not selfish; it’s sanctified! It’s the difference between saying, “Lord, bless what I’m doing,” and saying, “Lord, I’ll do what You’re blessing!” That’s why the Word says in (Matthew 6:33), “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” When God becomes your priority, His presence becomes your portion! When you desire Him first, everything else aligns behind His will!

Godly desire is not passive; it’s powerful! Jesus said in (Matthew 5:6), “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” In other words; spiritual hunger brings heavenly satisfaction. You don’t get filled until you get hungry! David knew that hunger. He cried in (Psalm 42:1–2), “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.” Oh yes! That’s not religion, y'all; that’s relationship! That’s not routine; that’s desperation! He wasn’t chasing blessings; he was chasing the Blesser!

Paul had that same fire when he said in (Philippians 3:10), “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings.” Paul had already seen miracles, preached to nations, written letters of revelation, but he still said, “I just want to know Him more!” Oh, that’s the mark of true godly desire; when success doesn’t satisfy, only the Savior does! And let me tell you something; godly desire doesn’t chase pleasure; it pursues purity. The Word says in (Titus 2:11–12), “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;” When your heart burns for God, sin starts losing its flavor! When you desire righteousness, temptation loses its power!

But here’s the truth — not all desires are godly. (James 4:3) warns, “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss.” In other words; some desires are born in the flesh, but godly desire is born in the Spirit! That’s why (Galatians 5:16–17) says, “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” If you stay in the Spirit, your desires stay sanctified! Oh, glory to God; godly desire brings contentment! (Psalm 73:25) declares, “Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.” When your heart is full of God, the world can’t tempt you with its empty promises! The more you have of Him, the less you need of everything else!

Let me speak this to your heart — when your desires line up with His will, doors will open that no man can shut! Because (Proverbs 11:23) says, “The desire of the righteous is only good.” In other words; godly desire doesn’t just bring blessings — it produces goodness! (Isaiah 26:8–9) says, “The desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee. With my soul have I desired thee in the night.” ...Church, when you start desiring God in the night; in the darkness, in the trial, in the storm; that’s when the light of His glory begins to rise in your soul!

So let me ask, if I may; please; what are you hungry for? What’s your heart chasing after? If it’s people, possessions, or pleasure; it’ll fade. But if it’s the presence of God, it will fill you, sustain you, and overflow through you forever! Let's ask the Lord to purify our desires! To help us to set our heart on things above! Make us hungry for His presence! Because when your desires become godly, your destiny becomes glorious! Glory to God!
